Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
Although there have been plenty of decent Star Wars games in the past, LucasArts have had a lot of trouble producing a top quality game based on the new prequels--but Republic Commando looks like it could change all that. Republic Commando puts you in a four man squad of elite clonetroopers, that act as a sort of SAS version of the standard stormtrooper-alikes seen in Episode II. It’s your job to order the squad about while engaging in a spot of first person shooting action as you go. In other words it’s Star Wars does Rainbow Six--the squad-based shooter being just about the only genre of game that hasn’t been Star Warsified up until now.

Surprisingly things seem to be turning out rather well with some decent graphics and an easy to use, if slightly perfunctory, squad control interface. The game also takes much inspiration from the GameCube’s Metroid Prime with an excellent helmet view that does a lot to immerse you in the game and convince you that you really are the sci-fi version of Andy McNab.

Perhaps the only problem evident at this stage is that the battles are noticeably smaller scale than the ones from the movie with rarely more than half a dozen enemies attacking at any one time, rather than the hundreds seen in the film. An online multiplayer mode should help to shore things up somewhat, although the artificial intelligence of the bad guys is good enough to ensure you can still have plenty of fun on your own. --David Jenkins

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - a worthwhile buy
This game is pretty good. The graphics are good, the gameplay is smooth and the weapons are cool. It follows 4 elite clone troopers and follows the storyline vaguely. The HUDs are very cool. The screen is as if you are seeing out of the visors and if you get shot a lot your visor cracks or if you kill an enemy at close range, blood splats against the visor. This then gets cleared by a white line that comes across the screen. This game is pretty good. If i had played on it before at a friends house ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What a game!!!
This game is awesomely awesome because it gets all the best bits from every shooter ever and puts it into an awesome game. It is a pity that so many people have overlooked it as 'not star wars enough'.

The action is fast paced and can be tactical (depending on how hard you make it). You are in charge of 3 other commandos of the republic and you face many droids in typical you-against-the-world missions.

Seriously you should get this game now...

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Rainbow Six, with a slightly dissapointing Star Wars twist
I am, well, I'm not appauled and much in the same, I'm not amazed. I am, dissapointed with 'Star Wars: Republic Commando' as I expected so much more from this game. At first the game appears to begin well, and infact it does. You blast your way through a few droids and meet up with the rest of your team-mates who all specialise in an ability (I forget the names of the squad) a computer slicer, a demolitions specialist, and a weapons technition. Most people seem to be caught up in the 'hype' of shouting ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Star Wars game to date
Refreshing squad based shooter, taking all the best features from previous titles in this genre and bringing them all together into the star wars universe to produce a really enjoyable and rewarding game experience.

You control your squad with simple point and click orders, and when not under your instruction they carry on with the mission with impressive a.i.

Also there are plenty of auto saved checkpoints which are useful when things aren't going so well and when you only want to ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - republic commando
I brought this game because I played a demo of the single player and it seemed okay. Aside from a few graphical glitches, it is good in its single player mode, although after a few hours the whole thing started getting repetitive and i ended up going back to another game i was playing. Befor I gave up with this game i tried out the online features, as the only games i really buy these days have to be xbox live compatible but however, the multiplayer was absolutely terrible, you run around and if someone sees ...
